The Membership Program at Lux Art Institute aims to cultivate awareness and discussion of contemporary art through the Lux residency program and interactions with artists and members of the visual art and design communities. Generosity from our members allows us to offer exhibits, events and programming designed to connect the public meaningfully with contemporary art.
True to our mission, Lux has instituted a Pay As You Wish admission structure that encourages wider accessibility to contemporary art and the artistic process. Though we do suggest a voluntary contribution instead, every visitor at Lux has access to the gallery spaces without an admission fee.
Here at Lux, membership goes beyond the visitor experience with exclusive access to lectures with resident artists, first looks at exhibitions through our VIP Opening Receptions, and benefits that increase at every level of participation.

Q: How do I become a member?
A: You can join, renew, or give a gift of membership (monthly, annual, or digital) online, via telephone at 760-436-6611 x203, or during an onsite visit during Lux Open Hours (check our website for current hours) or at an event in our Lux Education Pavilion or Lux Artist Pavilion.
Q: What payment methods are accepted?
A: We accept most major credit cards, cash, and check.
Q: I’m experiencing some issues with the online membership registration form. Can someone help me?

Q: Is there an option for auto-recurring billing for my membership?
A: Absolutely. You may choose to opt-in for auto-recurring billing when you sign up for a monthly, annual, or digital membership at Lux Art Institute online, over the phone, or in person.

Q: Are there discounts on membership available?
A: We offer a 10% discount on our Reception Pass membership only for Students, Seniors (65 years old and above), Military, or Educators.

Q: What is the duration of Lux membership?
For annual membership holders, your membership date is activated on the date of your received membership payment and is valid through the year. For example, if you pay for an annual membership on December 1, 2020, it will expire on December 1, 2021.
For monthly membership holders, your membership date is activated on the date of your received membership payment and is valid through the month. Please note that a 3-month commitment is required for monthly membership purchases. For example, if you pay for a monthly membership (with 3-month commitment) on January 1, 2020, it will expire on April 1, 2020.
Q: What materials should I expect to receive after I join the Lux Membership Program?
A: All new and renewing memberships will receive a Lux Membership Acknowledgment Letter within 14 days of your payment. The Lux Membership Acknowledge Letter will list your membership level, date of purchase, membership benefits, and our Employer Identification Number (EIN) for tax-deductible purposes.
Reception Pass and General Membership holders will receive their letter via email; Family Membership holders and above will receive their letter along with their joint Lux Membership Card / North American Reciprocal Museum (NARM) card via mail delivery. (Please note that Reception and General Members do not need a Lux Membership Card since your membership is digitally verified.)
If it has been more than 14 business days since your payment and you have not received your Lux Membership Acknowledgement Letter, please contact Membership Coordinator Stephanie Dao at email@example.com or (760) 436-6611 x203 to request your letter.
Q: Do I need a Lux Membership Card to gain access to the museum? What if I lose my card?
A: A Lux Membership card is not required for entry to the museum! We will digitally verify your membership upon your RSVP to events and during your onsite visits.
If you are a Family Membership holder or above, you will receive a joint Lux Membership Card / North American Reciprocal Museum (NARM) card during your enrollment to the Lux Membership Program. Please bring this card with you if you wish to visit participating NARM institutions, as this card is required for access to those institutions.

Q: My membership includes guest passes to Lux special events. How do the guest passes work?
A: Guest passes are digitally verified for all Opening Receptions, Art and Stories Series, and Studio Series events onsite. During your RSVP for an upcoming event through our website, phone call, or email, please include the number of guests you would like to bring with you so that we may assist with keeping a record of how many passes have been used versus remain through your membership duration with us.
Q: I have used all of the guest tickets allotted to my membership level. Can I still bring a guest?
A: There are two ways that your guests can join you at Lux events if your guest ticket allotment has been depleted. If you are a Reception Pass holder, you may upgrade your current membership level to General level or above to receive additional guest passes. If you are at the General level or above, please invite your guest to RSVP for an event as a New Member or a Guest (non-member) through our website event form, by email at email@example.com, or by phone at (760) 436-6611.
Q: I would like to refer a friend to the Lux Membership Program and I heard that there is an active referral program with referral benefits at your institution. What should I know about it?
A: Our "Art Is Better Together" Referral Program at Lux invites you to invite a friend to join as a Member within the Lux Membership Program.
Once their registration has been confirmed (make sure that they list your name as their referrer when signing up), you will each receive one (1) free month of membership added on to your annual, monthly, or digital membership.
Q: How can I stay updated as a Lux Member with the latest onsite / digital exhibitions, events, workshops, classes, and more onsite at your facility in Encinitas and/or through your digital offerings platform, Art Access?
A: Stay "in-the-know" with Lux happenings by signing up here to receive our Lux emails if you have not yet already done so! We also welcome you to browse through our upcoming offerings through our website, including our Calendar of Events, Classes, and Art Access.

Q: Will I get special or discounted access to any other museums?
A: Members at the Family level and above receive reciprocal membership benefits to over 1,100 participating North American Reciprocal Museum (NARM) museums and galleries, historical museums and societies, botanical gardens, children’s museums, and more across the United States, Canada, Bermuda, El Salvador, and Mexico.
Q: What is the tax-deductibility of my membership?
A: Reception Pass, General, and Family Membership levels are 100% tax deductible.
Collective-level memberships are $450 tax deductible; Luminary-level memberships are $900 tax deductible; Visionary-level memberships are $2,250 tax deductible; Platinum-level memberships are $4,500 tax deductible.

Q: Are memberships transferable or refundable?
A: No. Membership purchases are accepted as a tax-deductible contribution to the institution in the promotion of the arts within the Greater San Diego and the Art Access communities, and therefore are non-transferable and non-refundable. We thank you for your support of Lux Art Institute.

Q: What does it mean to be an Art Access member?
A: Beginning on August 21, 2020, Lux Art Institute now offers a virtual membership option that unlocks exclusive benefits to Lux Art Institute’s digital platform, Art Access.
Being an Art Access Member means that you can take part in all of Lux’s virtual offerings, including but not limited to Art Access’ special artist engagement offerings, virtual Opening Receptions and Studio Series, members-only online store discounts, virtual education classes for all ages, and virtual workshops.
Q: Who is Art Access for?
A: Art Access Membership is an all-ages, individual membership that has been created for any individual that wishes to participate in the Art Access platform and receive membership benefits applying specifically to Lux virtual offerings.
Art Access is designed for those who would like to experience Lux from a home environment (or other remote location) that can accommodate the user’s flexible access to virtual Lux programs, with many of the programs offered as recorded activities or events that can then be viewed at a later time at convenience.
Q: I am an Art Access Member and would like to enroll my child(ren) and/or teen(s) for a Lux art class, workshop, or special program through the Art Access digital platform. Can I enroll them to receive the virtual program discount for them through my personal Art Access membership if I am their parent or guardian?
A: No. An Art Access membership is required for each registrant and / or participant wishing to participate in any and all Art Access programs stating Art Access membership as a basis for program participation or discount.
Q: I am a current Member of Lux Art Institute at the General level or higher. Do I receive Art Access benefits as well?
A: Yes! If you are an annual membership holder at Lux at the General level or higher, the full scope of Art Access perks offered to Art Access members is also included in your membership.
Q: I am a 2019/2020 Lux Reception Pass holder and am no longer able to take advantage of my membership benefits due to COVID-19 and the halt of Lux's onsite functions. What can I do from here to ensure that I am getting the most from my membership.
A: As of September 14, 2020, current Lux Art Institute members at the Reception Pass standing will have the option to convert to an annual Art Access Membership at no additional cost for a 12-month (1 year) period. Q: What can I expect to receive once I join the Lux Membership Program as an Art Access Member?
A: Art Access members will receive a Lux Membership Acknowledgement Letter in PDF form to the email provided in the membership sign-up form. This membership acknowledgment letter will be an official digital confirmation receipt that outlines your purchased membership details, benefits, and tax-deductible ID information.
If you have recently enrolled but have not received your acknowledgment email after 14 days of your payment, please contact our Memberships Department at SDao@LuxArtInstitute.org or (760) 436-6611 x203 to request your letter. You may also want to check the Junk, Spam, and Unwanted folders of your email.

Q: Do I need an Art Access Digital Membership card?
A: No, you do not need an Art Access digital membership card in order to access your digital membership benefits. All Art Access members receive special access to members-only locked content via a provided Lux password, which is listed within your program enrollment information via email at the time of your virtual program registration.
Q: What is the duration of an Art Access Membership?
A: The Art Access Membership is a monthly, auto-recurring membership that does not expire unless canceled. If your Art Access membership is canceled prior to the end of the monthly payment cycle, you will continue to receive your Art Access benefits through the end of your monthly payment cycle.
Please note that Art Access Memberships begin at a 3-month-minimum commitment.
